The Shire of South Gippsland was a local government area about south-southeast of Melbourne, the state capital of Victoria, Australia. The shire covered an area of , and existed from 1894 until 1994. ==History== Originally part of the Alberton Road District, South Gippsland was first incorporated as a shire on 16 February 1894.〔 Accessed at State Library of Victoria, La Trobe Reading Room.〕 On 2 December 1994, the Shire was abolished, and merged with Shire of Mirboo and most of Shire of Korumburra and Shire of Woorayl into the South Gippsland Shire.
